Being in a lab can be good, but for me, I enjoy the outdoors. Imagine if your work was not only interesting science experiments and such, but that they were also located in spectacular scenery.

There is a certain sense of adventure with every day or night. Whether you need to get through snow or mud or sand to get to work, needing to deal with rugged terrain, having beautiful mountains in the background or dealing with the fury of blizzards. Sometimes I need to drive a four-wheel drive, sometimes it is a snowmobile. In some places there are even dangerous animals, whether snakes or polar bears and you need to be careful (or even carry a rifle, just in case!).

For me field work is a great combination.

      science + explorer = adventure

Sure, you can get wet, or cold or hot or even hurt, but that’s part of the excitement.
