The best thing about being a scientist is that you can help people and make a big difference to their lives: whether it’s helping to find a cure for a horrible disease, or finding a new purifier to give people safe drinking water in third world countries, or inventing new technology to make people’s lives better.

Learning new things that may change the world, the relative freedom of thought that I’m allowed and the vastness of science means that there should be room for everyone.

Individual scientists don’t often make major discoveries by themselves. What is more usual is that teams of scientists make small developments, working as teams and learning together. The best thing about being a scientist is being part of that team. Together we learn new things and thus give humanity new ‘tools’ to use. Scientists make the world a better place.

      Learning new things every day.

Sometimes life can feel a bit boring and routine to me because I have a lot of family responsibilities which I love but do not give me time I used to have to explore the outside world like I used to. But I know when I go to work and learn something I didn’t know the day before, life seems anything but routine, it feels really exciting. By the way, I also felt this way before I had a family, but it is a more important aspect to me now than it used to be.

Discovering or inventing things to solve a problem in science or for society — usually something that has never been done before!

      Always being curious! 🙂
