If you mean text books and other reference books, then “Interferometry and Synthesis in Radioastronomy”, “University Physics”, “The C Programming Language” and “The PostScript Reference Manual” would be the top ones.
If you mean fiction, then I like “Wizard of Earthsea” (just the first book, not the whole series), “Hobbit” & “Lord-of-the-Rings” (books only, NOT the films), and the “Harry Potter” series (but the German translation, not the original English, believe it or not)
Native Son by Richard Wright which is about this black man in the 1930’s in America (which had a lot of racial tension). Anyway, he accidentally kills a rich white girl (it REALLY was an accident) and decides no one would believe it was an accident because he is black, so he chops her body up, puts it in a furnace, and writes a note to pretend she was kidnapped. But then even though everything was an accident, he starts to feel very powerful and in control of the world and….well, read the book. It’s a fantastic psychological analysis of what racism makes a person feel like and do.
I like Stephen King because they are good stories and they are easy to read, like The Green Mile, Carrie, The Shining… and they can be a little bit scary too!
