Probably the same as most boys, a footballer or Luke Skywalker (or really Han Solo)

I’ve almost always wanted to work on radio telescopes.

Probably a professional footballer, but these hopes were dashed in my teens! I’d always been interested in science, but only seriously considered as something to do as a career around GCSEs and A-levels.

I went through all sorts of careers ideas!! I wanted to be a nurse, a teacher, a musician, an artist… My mum wanted me to be a hairdresser – I was sorry to disappoint her!! I also remember thinking I could be a stunt woman after our P7 trip and we got to do things like abseiling and rock climbing. The army always kind of appealed to me too and when I was 17, when I decided to go to uni instead. I thought I might join the army after my degree but I got into research instead.
