Molds are fungi that grow in little multicellular structures and look like towers. Unlike plants, fungi don’t get their energy from photosynthesis, but they get energy from the organic matter they grow on e.g. mushrooms growing on a tree stump. Molds excrete enzymes into the matter around them that break down the food around them into nutrients they can absorb.

Molds reproduce by forming spores that float into the air. This lands on the food and the mold colony begins to grow. Molds can grow at 4 degrees C which is why you can still get them growing in the fridge.

A lot of molds are safe to eat like blue veined cheese! Mostly they are not tasty!!
