      Not directly — I have funding that is used to pay for access to resources or they are owned by my university so they are “free” to use.

      For example, accessing parts of the UK high performance computing infrastructure (called HECToR) is free for UK universities and research institutions, but to access certain high-spec parts you have to bid for access (and get funding to pay for it!).

      I have a grant that I use to pay for all my chemicals and equipment. This money comes from the charity Cancer Research UK and that money comes from all the donations that people make and fundraising events like the Race For Life. I couldn’t be more grateful to the people that do this and basically sponsor my research. I did the Race For Life on Sunday so I could say thank you so these people, and meet them and tell them about my research – I couldn’t do it without them.
